FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Spray Seeding & How to Maintain Your Lawn

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How do I prepare the surface?

A. Remove all weeds and existing lawn (if starting from fresh) and top dress with sandy loam. Install irrigation now for ease of watering later on. Putting effort into preparing the site well gives excellent long-term results.

Q. How much water does my new lawn need, and how often should I water it?

A. Your new lawn needs frequent watering to help it establish. Lack of water is the most common cause of new lawn failure. Keep the slurry moist for the first 3 to 4 weeks, especially in hot weather. You may need to water several times a day for up to 10 minutes on really hot days or set up an irrigation system with a timer. The key is frequency, not volume.

Q. When should I mow my lawn?

A. Mow in 4-6 weeks in summer and 6-8 weeks in winter. Always mow on the highest setting while your lawn establishes, as it will aid with water retention.

Q. Do I need to fertilise my lawn?

A. Fertilise with granular lawn food after 6-8 weeks and ensure you water it well. Even application is important as clumped fertiliser will burn your lawn.

Q. What ongoing maintenance does my lawn need?

A. Coring and de-thatching may be necessary to keep your lawn beautiful. Regular fertilising will also benefit your lawn.
